Brand Identity Systems
Marks, type, palettes, and the logic that connects them. We build identity systems with the rigour of architecture and the warmth of a magazine masthead.
OBSCURA is an independent atelier shaping brand identities, interfaces, and editorial systems for founders, institutions, and cultural brands who treat design as a discipline — not a decoration.
We believe great design is forensic. It begins with a long, attentive read of the problem — the audience, the market, the residue of every prior attempt — before a single mark is made.
Our work moves between disciplines: brand systems, interface design, editorial layout, and motion. We resist categorisation and the algorithmic averages it produces.
OBSCURA is intentionally small. Two principals, three collaborators, and a rotating circle of writers and engineers. Each commission gets the full weight of the studio.
Marks, type, palettes, and the logic that connects them. We build identity systems with the rigour of architecture and the warmth of a magazine masthead.
Websites, apps, and digital products. Designed for clarity at speed and refined down to the kerning. We collaborate with engineers from the first sketch onward.
Books, reports, monographs, and the printed matter that still carries the heaviest emotional weight. Long-form layout with a sculptural sense of rhythm.
Title sequences, brand films, and the small moments of motion that turn an interface into something alive. We script, board, and direct in-house.
We begin with a long brief, in-person where possible. We read the room, the archive, and the silences between.
Multiple parallel directions, drawn rough and shown early. We prefer honest sketches over polished decoys.
Engineering and design run side by side. Every system we ship is tested against real content, in production.
Six weeks of supervised aftercare. Calibrations, training, and the quiet improvements that don't fit a kickoff.
"OBSCURA gave us an identity that didn't just fit our company — it raised the bar for the entire category we operate in."

"They treat typography the way good editors treat language. Every detail is argued for — and the result reads like a clear sentence."

"Working with the studio felt like commissioning a small, careful film. The discipline shows in every screen we shipped."
